Below is an old photo of the Cottage at the bottom of the drive to Thurcroft Hall.
The two photo's below were very kindly sent in by Mrs Annett Wade, they show one of the first shops in Thurcroft, Keenen's General Store. It sold all types of goods from grocery's to tools for the miners of the village. The name of the store changed in the late 1930s to Yardley's. The shop is still in business and for a long time known as Sandra's charity shop. Mrs Daisy Yeardley, (nee Kennen) stood outside there shop below.
Second photo shows one of the shop windows dressed out in decorations for either the Royal Silver Jubilee of George the V and Queen Mary 1935. or the Coronation of King George the VI in 1937.
Map below from the 1940s,Some Street names have changed, Woodhouse Green as can be seen from the map went down to what is now Kingsforth Lane. Laughton Road was called Rotherham Road . Katherine Street used to run from the bottom Charles Street across the main road (Green Arbour) to the bottom where it meets Sandy Lane. Katherine Road ran from Brampton Road to Charles Street. At this time Rowena Drive area was still being built, and no building to the south of the Welfare Hall. Osbert Drive had yet to be built.
Photo below sent in by Mr Les Walker, it shows Thurcroft Football Team from 1918, we don't as yet have any names to go with the photo, please let us know if any one recognizes the folk on the photo. It looks to have been taken in front of the same pavilion that the Cricket Club used.
