This section of the site will be used for photos and related item's,of the 1984/5 strike period, unless info is given with the photos i will try and name who i can.
The four photos below have been sent in by Bob Everett, with thanks to Bob for his help, First two photos show the March back to work with Banner and parade walking up Pit Lane. The photos are at the best resolution i can get and some of the men in front of the banner are left to right, Jack Morris, Brian Beeston,Ken Downing, Pat Fortune and George Sherwood. As can be seen from the second photo the march streched back as far as the camera could see.
The third photo shows the march stood at the top of pit lane with what is Green's factory in the background, . Bob Everett can be seen front centre with Blue Jacket,to his right is Bob Merrington and Albie Howis, and to
his left is Pete Greenwood. The last photo is of the Picketing shelter that stood at the top of pit lane.
The picture below was very kindly sent in by Mr Harry Lockyer. It is in fact a page from a Calendar that was produced in 1985 for the Women against Pit closures. The lady forth from the left is the Late Mrs Margaret Redfern. Photo taken at the now closed Treeton Colliery.
The image below is the front cover of the book that records "The Miners Strike" in Thurcroft, and is an oral history of that time.
Written by Peter Gibbon and David Steyne in 1986,with all royalties going to the Miners Solidarity Fund. A reprinting of the book may take place as the printers occasionally receive orders for copies. A link to the publishers is on our Links page.
The two letters below were sent in by David Thorpe, they were sent to all emploees at Thurcroft in August and September 1984.
One of the more unusual item's i have come across is the Post card below.This is a genuine Post card made and sold during the strike period, if you look at the date's on the back of the card you can see they only go up to January 1985.
The badges below were very kindly loaned to the web site by Mrs Sheila Close, they form part of a large collection that Sheila collected during the 1984/5 strike.

The photo's below was very kindly sent in by Dave Parry. the first one shows Neil Podmore at the front of a picket. Dave thinks this was took at Creswell.
Same photo as above but from a different angle, the man on the right of photo is Alan Green, could that be Bob Merrington just behind Alan, ?.
The second one is a book cover,in the centre of the photo where the miners leaflet is you can pick out to its left hand side Dave Parry, to its right is Steve Barras, next to steve is Andy Bell just behind Andy partly hidden is Tony Lidster.
Third photo is from the March Back to Work, the men are gathered near the Managers office and are being addressed by management at the time,a couple of people in the photo are [ left of centre] Slope Hudson, to the right of photo Bob Merington.
Fourth photo, Thurcroft Pickets at Silverwood late on in the strike. Keith Badger [left of centre] looking at camera, Steve Hartley to his left. John Kelly stood in front of Pit Sign right hand side, Eddie Baxter stood next to him, other Thurcroft men around in the background.
Fifth photo is the David Jones march in South Kirkby, from the left, Paul Roddis, Albert Thompson, Tony Lidster, Dave O Brien, Eddy Liversedge, Alan Thompson, i think the woman is Mrs Alan Finnie and her two daughters,on the end is Tony Ward with his son, [year photo was taken not known].

The last photo shows the late Tony Lidster (front right), next to Dave Parry. The late Mick Roberts (back right, brown shirt) in front of Mick with woolly hat is John Green, in front of John (with Arm in the air) is Steve Barras. Behind Dave Parry ( Red Hair) is Ivan Burns. Can't remember tall chaps name behind Tony. Dave remembers this photo as being taken in June 1984 at the Yorkshire Miners Gala.
The two photo's below were sent in by Mr Pat Fortune. Both were taken in the Welfare Hall and show the Christmas Party of 1984. First photo shows a room full of children enjoying their tea, the second shows tables full of food put together by all the volunteers and helpers and is a great achievement to all involved. Pat goes on to say that every child who came to the party went home with a present.
