When this photo was taken the building in the back ground was the Medical Centre and next door was the Mortuary. The house on the left was at one time occupied by Mr Jack Rhodes [top photo left] he lived there so that he was on call for the medical centre. and some time later a Mr Eddie Lodge lived in the house to the right. After the medical centre was built in the Pit Head Baths both houses were occupieed by Undermanagers, /Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and also the Safety dept. Mr Lockyer goes on to say that First Aid meetings for the St Johns Ambulance Men were held in the old Bottom Club, and that if any men were off work with an injury from work you had to see the Compensation Doctor who would come to the Miners Welfare Hall in the NUM room every two weeks to asses your injury and more likly tell you to start work. Thanks to Mr Harry Lockyer.

The photo below was very kindly sent in by Jane Keelan it shows Thurcroft in its early days of shaft sinking.

Photo below sent in by Mick Hill, it shows the Miners Demonstration march by Part of the Thurcroft parade, photo from late 1940s early 1950s.
As the wording above says we first thought this was part of a Miners Demonstration March, but now were'r not so sure, it has been suggested that it could be a march with some aspect of it being a Buffs parade. Some of the men at the back have a ribbon of medals on display, some of the men include. Eddie Edwards. Jack Smith. Bill Amoss. Jim Gardner. and Jack Walsh ( Mick,s Uncle). If any one has any thoughts on the matter please get in touch.
