The old sepia photo below as been very kindly sent in by Annette Wade, it is reported to be taken in front of Thurcroft Pit Gates,
taken some where around 1914/18. The man driving the pony and trap is George Kennen a Blacksmith from Wickersley.
Mr Kennen's son, George Harry Kennen was a Blacksmith at Thurcroft Pit from 1938 untill the late 1940s when he retired through ill health. He and his wife ran Kennan's shop in Thurcroft, later becoming Yeardieys Shop (see photos 1) and George Harry did his Blacksmithing round the back of the shop George Harry died in 1952. The shop building is one of the first brick built shop's in Thurcroft, later it was Sandra's charity shop.
